Meet Frank
Frank never had the chance to know his father. His mother died when he was born, leaving him to be raised by his elderly grandfather.
As a young boy, Frank moved from village to village with his grandfather, searching for families who needed help tending cattle. Life was uncertain, and many days were focused simply on survival. Some months they found enough work to get by; other months they struggled to meet even their basic needs.
A Young Cattle Herder with a Dream of Education
When they arrived in Kalonga, Frank was given the opportunity to attend Hope & Care School. But his attendance was irregular because his grandfather often kept him home to help graze cattle and contribute to the family’s income.
Despite the obstacles, Frank refused to give up on his dream of getting an education.
Determined to stay in school, he began selling plastic bags in the local market so he could buy the supplies he needed. When his grandfather discovered what he was doing, Frank was forced to leave home.
For many children, that would have been the end of the story.
Instead, Hope & Care stepped in.
In 2011, when Hope & Care was still a newly established church-led ministry, Frank was welcomed into our orphanage and enrolled in Primary One. With a safe place to live and people who believed in him, he flourished. He became one of the top students in his class and earned the respect of his peers, who looked to him as a leader.
Transformation & Achievement
Today, Frank has graduated from high school. After completing our business training program, he received startup capital from one of our partners to launch a chicken business. The income is helping him transition to independent living as he works toward his dream of becoming an accountant.
Frank’s story is just one of hundreds.
Today, more than 700 children attend our two schools. Many face challenges similar to those Frank overcame: poverty, family instability, and limited access to education.
