Introduction
In the rapidly growing community of Wakiso, where more than 23,000 people live across over 5,300 households, many families continue to struggle with poverty, and limited opportunities for children. In this context, the demand for affordable and supportive education continues to rise. What began as evangelism and outreach in partnership with local pastors soon revealed a deeper need: practical hope for vulnerable children and families.
This is what led to the establishment of Havilah Community Academy.
Hope Rising in Wakiso
Late last year, that hope was shaken when the school suffered a devastating break-in. Classrooms were damaged, essential learning materials were stolen, and reopening seemed uncertain.
But through resilience, sacrifice, and the support of parents and well-wishers, the school reopened.
Term One ended successfully with 94 children back in class, supported by 11 committed staff members. The children performed well academically and also participated in debates, fellowships, and practical skills training such as handcrafted accessories, jewelry, and personal care products. We believe education should prepare children not only for exams, but for life, creativity, and purpose.
Closing Call
Many families in the community survive through small roadside businesses, vending, and informal work. As authorities continue removing roadside structures and enforcing organized trading zones across Uganda, many vulnerable households face growing uncertainty about income and survival. This makes community support even more important for children and young people.
As Term Two opens on 18th May, many children are still learning with limited desks and supplies after the break-in.
We are inviting friends and partners to help us restore a dignified learning environment by contributing toward school desks and essential classroom materials.
A school desk costs approximately UGX 50,000, and every contribution helps a child learn with hope again.
