Who we are
Hope & Care is an indigenous, Christ-centered ministry and social enterprise creating pathways for children, families, and entire communities to flourish spiritually, socially, and economically.
Why We exist
We exist to build pathways for children and families to flourish.
What We Believe
We believe FAITH should shape the whole of life, and that people flourish when they have access to the knowledge, skills, resources and opportunities they need.
How We Work
We work locally, practically and relationally, partnering with communities to create pathways toward flourishing.
Our Story
-
The Roots: Long before Hope & Care was established, a family had learned to live through hardship, displacement, rescue, and the daily struggle to survive. Yet, even with little, they shared food and fruit from their garden with their neighbors. These experiences shaped a lasting conviction: what we have can become a source of hope for others.
-
1993 — Mpigi: John responds to God’s call and plants the first church, beginning a journey of serving communities and bringing hope.
-
1994 — Education Begins: A small school begins in church spaces to meet the educational needs of children in the community.
-
2001 — Kalonga, Mubende: John relocates to Kalonga, Mubende, preaching the Gospel and planting churches.
From the Grassroots. By Locals. For Communities.
-
2011 – Birth of Hope&Care: Hope & Care begins as a local church-led response to the deep challenges facing orphans, vulnerable children, widows, and struggling families. The work initially focused on helping vulnerable children access education.
-
2016 — Expanding to Wakiso: The work expanded to Wakiso, including the establishment of a school to serve children and families in the community.
-
2024 — Reformation
Impact in focus: Orphans have found care and a safe place to grow; widows have received support in distress; and youth are gaining life skills to overcome poverty and thrive.

Our Heart
At the heart of HOCAM is a deep commitment to children. As Psalm 127:3 declares, “Children are a heritage from the Lord.” We believe every child is a precious gift from God, deserving of love, care, and the opportunity to flourish.
Our Mission
To bring hope, healing, and transformation through faith in Christ by embracing children,
empowering families, and inspiring communities to flourish socially, economically and
spiritually with fairness, dignity, and opportunity for all.
Vision
An empowered society where all children, families, and communities have fair access to
social, economic, and spiritual opportunities, living in harmony, mutual support and justice.
How We Accomplish Our Mission:
Empower Families: Strengthen households through practical support, discipleship, and opportunities to overcome challenges.
Inspire Communities: Build resilient, hopeful communities by sharing the Gospel, fostering integrity, mobilizing the Church, and promoting livelihood, skills development, and innovative solutions that drive real transformation and well-being.
Our Approach
We recognize that every child, family, and community has different needs and circumstances. We connect people to partners, knowledge, skills and opportunities across spiritual, social, and economic pathways, helping them move from survival toward flourishing.

Our Process
- HOPE – Ignite the Dream: We speak life and possibility into every child and
family we meet. - HEALING – Address Barriers: Together we confront the obstacles—
physical, emotional, social, and spiritual—that hold people back. - FAITH – Build Confidence & Convictions: Rooted in the Gospel, we
nurture identity, purpose, and godly character. - ACTION – Empower Purpose: We equip people with skills, support, and
community so they can live out their calling.
